DEBORAH

I trained as a mental health nurse over 14 years ago. I have worked with people who were experiencing a wide range of mental health issues, from anxiety, depression and stress to trauma and serious mental illness, supporting them during their recovery.

I don’t profess to be a Wellbeing expert.

But I will share, that I have been on my own journey of recovery, from childhood trauma, to physical health issues (as well as the menopause) and through these sometimes awful and distressing experiences , I have felt loss, sadness, fear, anger, grief, physical pain....and also great joy, peace, clarity, creativity. In no longer being able to go to work daily,  I have also been given the gift of time and space and I have used this to explore many aspects of my own Wellbeing. I have discovered the beauty of slowing down, stillness, of presence, creativity, of gratitude for the things that I DO have in my life. Having super supportive relationships and loving friendships has impressed upon me the benefits of sisterhood and community and sharing our experiences and skills and BEing with each other. I realise that I have many resources... All the resources I need, and I want to share these with others. As a mental health nurse I am interested in the science/evidence base of wellbeing, rather than the 'woo woo', however, when women get together they do create magic!

“WellBEing is a skill and it must be practiced”.

BE YOU.

Love and light

ABBIE

During the last 8 years I have struggled with managing my mental health in such a busy world. I had to find ways to maintain my mental health which meant I had to improve my overall wellbeing. I found my love for journaling in the the process. I find writing incredibly cathartic and rewarding.

I've always described myself as an introvert and value time alone in the bubble of my house, but I have recognized how important  community is in maintaining my equilibrium. I recognise when I am at an event that it's still important I take time away to be alone (great example of setting boundaries to protect my wellbeing) and we encourage participants of our events to do the same. I love the freedom of being outside and in nature. As soon as I see a vast landscape of greenery, I feel free.

I'm a mental health nurse by trade, which brings with it a multitude of valuable skills for helping others navigate some really difficult times. To be able to give so much to others, I had to find effective ways of managing my own health and wellbeing.

I love the peace that being well brings me and I'd love to help you find that peace too.

Hope to meet you soon,

Abbie
